The weather hasn't retired, but this website has! Now the exploring, researching, and understanding are left to YOU.

A good place to begin is the Blitzortung Project's Live Lightning Maps. From there, explore the many weather, radar, and severe storm information services available through NOAA and the National Weather Service.
